This is going to be hard to listen too. As a kid I used to play this all the time, before and after school! Then my younger sister started playing the game on our new Wii. Our data was on the white 1019 memory card that get corrupted on the Wii and we had no clue that could happen. All of those memories made, all of the animal friends I had, my big house with my awesome gyroids and music were just gone. I eventually started over and it just was not the same. I’m too old for this game now and whenever I hear the music I am reminded of my old town…

Ever since I discovered tane.us/ac, I’ve been basically living on the Animal Crossing schedule – couple of months now. I gotta say, 2PM is my favorite.
Also, on an unrelated note, the downloads are super fucking slow – Zune takes about 5 minutes. Obviously I can wait that long, but is there any kind of fix on the way?
LOVE YOU BRETT
please tell me that duke lombardi makes an appearance
THANK YOU
Thanks Brett great episode as always
So many TDar references, such soothing music, really helped me get through the workday. Also, ‘I don’t wanna wait…….for our lives to be over’ almost made me fall out of my chair, and Chris pulled out some Creative Writing major skill for that ennui/on Wii joke.
I played Animal Crossing for a while, and don’t remember ever noticing that there was a theme that changed due to the time of day. Did Brett notice this on his own, or is this one of the things he heard about later? I love these things that are linked to the system clock, they hardly ever seem to do anything with the clock, but the clock in the garden in Nights is my favorite use.
*baby laugh*
“FUCKIN Animal Crossing!” as Duke Lombardi would say
Hi,
Just wanted to let you guys know that episode 25 most certainly did not go ignored. As a matter of fact, it was my first episode. I’m now a subscriber, and after this Animal Crossing episode, definitely a fan as well. Also, thanks to you guys, I went and picked up Dustforce from Steam – thanks for the recommendation!
If you ever do another indie-oriented episode, please consider including the music from Bastion. As I’m sure you know, it’s stellar.
I thoroughly enjoyed the nostalgic trip through Animal Crossing’s soundtrack. The episode made me anticipate the upcoming 3DS game even more, which I hardly thought possible. My personal favourite track was 4 am (which I don’t think I’d ever heard before?), and very surprisingly, I think 11 am was “my” Animal Crossing track. It resonated the most with me, which was sort of shocking. I wouldn’t have guessed 11 am, but there you go.
Anyway, I love what you guys are doing with VGMpire. Awesome stuff. PLEASE DO A WHOLE EPISODE ABOUT KK SLIDER. Thanks.
So excites to listen! I’ve played more Animal Crossing than I care to discuss and the music is in my brain forever. Seeing it showcased in a prestigious place like Vampire is very gratifying. Thanks for doing wheat you do Brett. Keep up the great work.
Wow, my phone auto-corrected way too many words in my last post! Sorry for the terrible grammar; I’m typing on a DROID X while I’m supposed to be working. Hopefully the sentiment comes through.
That’s okay. I totally read the 1st sentence in Toki’s [from Dethklok] voice.
Let’s try this again, in English this time…

‘Bought time for another episode! I wish I got into Animal Crossing as much as everybody else did. I’ve had the Gamecube version for a good year or so now (it was a used copy that still came with a memory card. Wooo!) and considering how much I’ve enjoyed the early Harvest Moon games, I think this would be right up my alley. It’s like Brett said though, I need a group of friends to play it with and share towns, and I don’t have anyone in the vicinity who would actually be interested in Animal Crossing.
I do want to play it and unlock all those NES games and make pixel art wallpaper for the in-game house. That’d be rad.
Musically I love how chill all the music is. I made myself a sort of “chill-out” game music playlist on iTunes and I think I’ll have to add a whole slew of Animal Crossing to it now.
“Bought time.” I need to learn how to proofread more often.
I AM VERY HAPPY!
Started off my 6 AM shift at work with this episode last week, I have to say those morning tracks are soooo perfect for the early hours.
Played a ton of animal crossing back when it first came out on gamecube, although I guess i was too young to appreciate the subtle ambience of the soundtrack. Great episode Brett, nailed me with a truckload o’ nostalgia 🙂
Is it bad that I find myself playing the sections of this podcast that correspond with the time of day for going/leaving work?
In a million years, I could have never come up with something that ‘ennui’ ‘on Wii’ joke. That’s why you get the big bucks Cantista.
I was also humbled by that one.
Great epsiode as usual, guys!
It saddens me to have realized, while listening to this, that even though my wife has the gold statue in our town, my son and I are ever so slowly competing for the silver statue, and both of our girls have logged countless hours of playtime on this game over the years since its release, I’ve never noticed that every single hour of the day has its own music in Animal Crossing. I figured there was a morning theme, midday, afternoon, evening, you know….maybe five or six themes. It embarrassing for me to not have noticed, especially considering how much I love game music.
Anyway, loved the way the episode was presented, plenty of the usual humor and nostalgia. And speaking of nostalgia, I was fairly certain up until this podcast that I was the only person in the entire world who would still admit to being familiar with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles “Coming Out of Their Shells” tour, or the music from it. Even as a 12-year-old I found myself struggling not to be disappointed with the corniness of that album.
Anyway, keep up the good work, fellas!
I loved this game on GC, so sad I don’t have a 3DS so I can’t play New Leaf.
a wonderful gem of a game with funky music, nice to see it getting a spotlight on the show!
also just wanna say – yay for VG music podcasts, the world needs more of us gamemusic appreciatorz! ^^ keep it up, guys.
This was a very fun idea, but it did remind me of just how much BETTER the Animal Crossing music has gotten. I got “New Leaf” on the day it came out and still play it daily, so I am very, very familiar with the NL music. It is extremely good; so good, in fact, that I’d love to hear another VGMpire with this “24 Hours of Animal Crossing” theme again, but with the New Leaf soundtrack. 7pm and 1am are the best, by the way.

Brelston,
Thanks! this was new to me…..I was hesitant to listen, but I’m glad I did. The whole ‘customize your house’ thing sounds like the most pointless waste of time ever, which is why I sooo need to play this game now. I would love it. And like others here, I need to hear a KK Slider episode, as well.
Antista,
“About this time, Ol’ Mr. Coyote was gettin’ a hankerin’ for some Chipmunk meat”.
I LOL’ed in my pants over that one. Good form!
My absolute favorite episode of VGMpire! I especially love Chris’ crack about how the depressing villagers give new meaning to the word “ennui” (“on Wii”–get it?). I cracked up about that one.
“I don’t know, probably having a hat battle.” I nearly died.
